simple = happy

I am a firm believer that a simple life can equal a happy life. I do think Doug Stone was right when he sang "Love Grows Best in Little Houses." I love little houses, not those I get lost in. I love clothes lines instead of dryers. Does anyone have those anymore? The fresh laundry smell blowing in the air... can life get more grand?

As I was flipping through channels this past week I came across the show CMT Cribs, which I'm guessing is a spin off of MTV Cribs and it all began to make me wonder. Why is it that the American culture has to or wants to have everything...

SO BIG?

I often watch House Hunters and House Hunters International on TLC. There is a huge difference in what Americans and foreigners think is suitable living space. No matter where House Hunters International goes, it is us Americans that ALWAYS have a bigger home.

Then, all of that got me thinking about my good friends back home in Wisconsin aka "The Tundra." They live the simplest life I know and they are happy as larks. No, they are not Amish or anything along those lines. They are normal as normal can get other than their house. They are two miles back in the woods. They made the road themselves with shovels. They built their own house, (pictured below) with one section consisting of an old camper on the top back portion. They have no electricity, no running water which means no bills. However, they do have a cell phone for emergencies. I have been there numerous times and love it! It is extremely warm in the winter because of the wood heat, but not so cool in the summer. Good thing Wisconsin only has hot weather about 3 months out of the year.

The house has been updated since these photos which were taken in 2004. The average person could not imagine living this way, but I could.

I will even provide you with a glance inside their lovely home.
