Please Come to Boston

I love it when my friends look me up when they come to visit Nashville. It had been too long since I had last seen
Suzanne McNeil. Some of you northerners may recognize her from her days as the lead singer of Bear Creek Band in WI. She has since played many roles in the music world but currently resides in Boston doing solo gigs and is the lead singer of a jazz band.

We first met @ Wagner's Bowling Alley in Eau Claire, WI where Bear Creek Band was playing. I think I was maybe seventeen and an aspiring singer (at the time) looking to get up and do a few tunes with the band. Wow how time flies.

We had a great time catching up over dinner and then on to downtown we went. I wanted to take her to a little joint called Robert's Western World on the main drag where my friend J.D. Simo was playing at. He's an AMAZING guitarist! I think she really enjoyed the band.

It was sad to say our goodbyes but as we departed she did say "Please come to Boston" anytime to visit and I just may take her up on that offer.

Pure Country

It's been many years, but last night as I was channel surfing, I ran across the move Pure Country on CMT. That movie and I go way back and I hadn't watched it since my high school years.

I was in love with the movie.
I bought jeans like Harley Tucker wore. (It didn't matter that I didn't have a horse let alone rode one)
I wore the soundtrack out.
I wanted to live where it was filmed.
And I only ever watched it with one certain boy in high school.

Sometimes we watched it, sometimes we talked, sometimes we both fell asleep, but it was 'our' thing. I remember thinking the movie was never long enough. haha. It's odd how somethings just put a person right back where it all began. It's also where I first fell in love with the actor Kyle Chandler who played bad boy Buddy Jackson in the movie. He now plays the lead in Friday Night Lights. In the end, I wouldn't have traded any of those Pure Country movie nights for anything.
